Competition Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chesterfield

The Young Chef competition was again held at Parkside. This is the fourth year the school has sponsored the Competition venue. The Club is grateful for the support of the Headteacher, Mrs Kam Grewal-Joy, the teaching and support staff and the Chair of School Governors, Mrs Jean Horton in providing the facilities for the competition. Three students took part in the competition representing Outwood Grange Academy (Newbold); Parkside Community School and Whittington Green School. The challenge for the three students was to cook a two course healthy eating meal for two people, in two hours within a budget of £10.

Izzy, from Parkside, prepared a menu with a starter of stuffed vegetables followed by a main course of fish wrapped in bacon with dauphinoise potato.

Conrad, from Outwood Grange Academy (Newbold), decided on a starter of samosas followed by a main course of sweet chilli pork served with rice.

Rebecca, from Whittington Green School, cooked a starter of breaded mushrooms and a main course spicy mixed meat lasange.

Judges for the competition were Adrienne Handley (past President, Chesterfield Inner Wheel); Rotarian Charles Evans (The Rotary Club of Chesterfield); and Eleanor Longden (a local business woman who runs her own catering business). Current Joint-President Robert Wadd also attended the competition to meet the students.

When the cooking had finished the judges were presented with a difficult task to decide on a winner. They adjudged Rebecca the winner. Joint President John Roberts presented the Club Trophy and Certificate of Particpation to Rebecca and Certificates of Participation to the runners up Izzy and Conrad.
